ABOUT KELLIE Continued...

From the age of 3, Kellie rode alongside her Mum, Dad & station hands - mustering mobs of cattle & sheep through Gidgee rock, heavily timbered country & hills. Throughout Kellie’s career it has been commented that she is a determined rider with a beautiful seat. Its all thanks to the miles through this rough terrain where she first learnt to sit up & ride.

When Kellie was in her early teens she started riding & training out side horses. She found her passion was for speed events, & loved the challenge of keeping a horse level headed but at the same time be the fastest team on the grounds. From these teenage years she always dreamed that when she grew up she would one day help others with their horses.

Kellie was renowned for winning almost every event she went in, with her beautiful Appaloosa gelding Cayuse Mighty Kalahari (Aka Pudgey) & her Quarter Horse mare Two Eyed Bow (Aka Crystal). Many people commented on what a useless horse Pudge was when she took ownership of him. Within two years Kellie was not only winning Stockman Challenge events & Gymkhana events, but she was also running some of the fastest times in rodeo arenas. With Kellie, Pudgy & Crystal as a trio, Kellie was always confident that unless she let her horses down, she would collar the cheque. One of her most famous quotes to her friends is “Believe in yourself & achieve it yourself.” This has been Kellie's frame of mind since she was a little girl. Her Mum & Dad always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. The only thing that they asked is that she work hard & pay her way. This is exactly what she did from the age of 13yrs.

After the sudden tragic loss of her beautiful horse Pudge & then a severe accident which almost ended Kellie's riding career, with a broken heart she put aside her professional career in Rodeo. Kellie still carried on starting young horses & competed casually with Crystal until she retired on a win at the ripe old age of 26yrs. When Crystal turned out to retirement Kellie patterned her Mum & Dads Quarter Horse Stallion Billy. For health reasons Billy had to be gelded, upon his recovery Kellie & he started placing & winning smaller titles. It was on this journey where Kellie met the man that would encourage her to remember the life she once wanted. She remembered who she was & went for it!  The game was about to change.
Kellie now resides in South-East Queensland with her husband Tyson. They have a property of their own, where they raise cattle & Kellie breeds a small number of horses for herself, carrying on the lines of her great Crystal & Pudge. With the support of her husband, over the last several years Kellie has built herself back up to a competitive level. She is now back as a strong competitor in the arena & also back training outside horses. In 2014 she decided to make her teenage dream become reality & built her own business coaching riders & running small private horsemanship clinics. Kellie also started mentoring & coaching competition level barrel racers. She designed her own Barrel Horse training program called “Sound Minds, Fast Times”, which she now teaches world wide at her clinics. Her clinics have been designed in such a manner that they are suitable to all ages, horse & rider levels. She takes the time to help you on you journey and assists you to achieve your goals.

As of 2017, Kellie's Horsemanship & Barrel Racing Clinics got much more popular than she ever imagined. She now runs them all over Australia & as of 2020 her clinics will be world wide. Kellie is not only passionate about teaching the fundamentals & techniques of Barrel Racing & Horsemanship, but her story is one that is truly amazing & motivational! Kellie’s clinics have been highly regarded by everyone who attends. Her passion for horses, the want to support her students & help them reach their goals, is truly humbling.

Kellie believes that every rider has their own style, that their style is their signature. It is about giving that signature the tools needed to get to the winner’s circle. She believes it’s not about having the prettiest horse, or flashiest gear. It’s about who has the determination & want to be a better horseman while putting the miles & love into the horses.

It has been said by many of her students who have attended clinics (international & home soil), “Kellie’s Clinics are definitely at the top of the charts. The first thing you realise about Kellie is that whilst she is a professional within her work, she doesn't think she is above anyone or that she is the "best". She runs her own race. She will be the first person to say "You never stop learning, & there is no such thing as a silly question". She has compassion for every rider, at every level & has a way of understanding & helping you get the results you are after as an individual. If you arrived at this clinic with a frown, brace yourself, as it’s about to be turned upside down.”

Kellie's theory is "Your dreams were given to you for a reason, it's your job to work hard & make those dreams come true. You owe it to yourself. You are the only one who can make your life one to be proud of. Get gritty, be brave, just make it happen".

Let's get to know Kellie in a few words...

MY TEAM

Co-Clinician

Emma wasn’t born into horses but she grew up loving them. Then one Christmas her dreams came true. The very first time she went to see her horse Luke, they called him in from the paddock. He had recently hurt his wither & couldn’t be ridden for some time. While Luke was healing, Emma began lessons & was coached by two of the best riders on the North Queensland Rodeo circuit. They started her off on a Team Roping horse named Larry. Larry was rough, strong headed but had a massive heart. Larry taught Emma a world of knowledge. How Emma rides today is owed a great deal to Larry & her two amazing coaches.

Larry ended up becoming a part of Emma’s family & the duo became one to beat. They sported & competed in rodeos in the Tableland & the North Queensland circuit. Throughout the years of competing together they won many championships at school events as well as many barrel races, including a NQ Pole Bending title in the ABCRA circuit. Larry was a fire cracker with so much try, he never let her down. He was the start to Emma’s riding career. Emma went on to complete many certificates throughout high school & college in horse breeding & training. She has worked within the equine & farming industry since.

As Emma progressed in her riding career she found a love for Breakaway Roping & Barrel Racing. When she moved to South East Queensland she started acquiring some young horses of her own to start training. She bought a 6 month old colt that became her pride & joy. Rocco is now a massive young gelding that is starting to come into his stride more & more at each barrel day he attends. Emma also bought her dream horse Shrek, he was a big strong chestnut gelding that consistently ran into the money at most of the events he attended. The thing Emma loved most about Shrek is how much he taught her as a rider. She refers back to those things he taught her when she is working with her youngsters.

It was competing in South East Queensland where Emma & Kellie finally crossed paths. It was only a sort time before the pair struck up a powerful friendship. Although being archrivals on the pattern, they are always at the side of the arena for each others runs, powering each other on. The pair have faced many rough roads together but have also conquered many goals & victories side by side. In 2018, Kellie's Clinics got more popular then she ever imagined so she approached Emma to join her team. Emma has been assisting Kellie help others chase their dreams & achieve their goals all over Australia.

Since assisting Kellie with her Horsemanship & Barrel Clinics,  Kellie has helped Emma to start her own Clinic teaching Breakaway Roping to beginners. Emma's Clinics will usually run the day before one of Kellie's Clinics.

Watching these two Horsewomen work together is a phenomenon in itself. This pair are the prime example of sportsmanship & mateship. Together they are a powerhouse & you are guaranteed to never stop laughing while working with them. “Great minds think alike & true sportsmen lift each other up”.

Bachelor of Equine Science - Specialising in Performance Horse Management

Jane grew up on a property in South West Queensland.  It was on the land that she discovered her love for horses.  For many years Jane competed at local Pony Club events, Gymkhanas & Showjumping. As Jane approached her early teens, her passion for Barrel Racing began. This is where Jane & Kellie would first cross paths...  Jane & her Father travelled over a large area of Qld, having great success with her horses Misty, Storm & Dusty. In 2013 Jane won the NRCA title.

As the years rolled on and Jane  left school, she contiunued to work on stations but decided she wanted something a little more for her career. It was a no-brainer  when Jane decided to complete a Bachelors degree in Equine Science. Throughout her study she has developed her skills and has demonstrated an abundance of knowledge & ability.  Her degree covers the key elements needed for not only a healthy preformance horse but also for the everyday backyard lawn mower pony.

Jane and Kellie now work side by side with a great passion to create happy, healthy, competitive horses in the Barrel Racing industy.

Jane is now bringing a new component to Kellie's Clinics and is running presentations to assist with the education of nutrition, fitness programs, reconignising  issues with horse health,  travel and competition management. Jane also has her own "Glovebox Guide" which she has personally written to asssist Equestrians. These are available at Kellie's clinics.

MEET OUR 2023/2024 UNDERSTUDIES...

Senior Understudy | Queensland

Hi, my name is Joyce Thompson. I live on the beautiful northern beaches of QLD.

I feel so privileged to be given this amazing opportunity.

I have been to 4 of Kellie’s Clinics and I am still in awe of how much these clinics help not only myself,  but every other horse and rider combination. The improvement in confidence of both horse and rider is just unbelievable.

Kellie is one of my idols and someone I look up to in every aspect of life not just barrel racing or horsemanship.

I am just starting back riding again after a bad riding accident during competition in September 2021. I am going to have to regain my confidence, but it's a comfort knowing I am in amazing hands with Kellie.

I can’t wait to see what 2024 has to offer!
